Fort Leonard Wood neighborhoods are more than an Army base and community that supports the military. This town of 15,000 plus people is about a two hour drive from St. Louis and 218 miles from Kansas City, Kansas. This district has many retail stores including one of the largest pet supply retailers in the country located here. There is also one of the major three telephone service providers and a greeting card company calling this town home and employing hundreds of people.
There are many things to see and do in and around this growing community. There are several campgrounds and RV sites if the outdoors is a family activity. The Mark Twain National Forrest is located next to the town and has lots of outdoor recreational activities, most open year round. And in town, there are a few community theaters or playhouses for live entertainment in addition to community centers for young and elderly to dance, eat, relax and visit with friends.
For a small community, this one has quite a few parks and green spaces for people to enjoy and afternoon of walking, hiking, playing on the playground or enjoying a picnic lunch. Another nice place to go during the long summer days is the community pool. It is maintained by the city from Memorial Day until Labor Day when kids return to school. There are several age appropriate schools with fewer students so that they have more teacher attention then those in the bigger communities and this has show to help improve their grades.
If a family or individual is looking to move to this small Missouri community, they have plenty of homes to choose from. There are larger homes and smaller, starter homes in every price range to pick from. There are the smaller, one and two bedroom homes that are great for military personnel and their spouse or one child. These homes can be found right in town in addition to St. Roberts, Plato and Dixon. They are usually in the $80,000 price range and higher.
In the same area, there are the larger homes for those military families that are more established or families with two incomes from one of the other employment providers to the community. These are typically 3-4 bedroom homes with a couple acres of land. Some of them are split-level floor plans while others are all on one floor. These homes range in the $150,000 and up amounts.
The weather in Mid-Missouri can be different from day to day; however they tend to experience all four of the seasons. Sometimes, they can experience several weather patterns in a single day. From spring-like temperatures in the morning to heat and humidity in the afternoon to below freezing at night, this town has also experienced some wild weather models.
The capital of Missouri is Jefferson City and it is only about 30 miles from this military town. Some people in the community will commute to a government job in the state capital and other will find employment through other types of employers in the capital. Within this town, there is a nice size airport that both military and civilians fly out of. Some of them commute to St. Louis or Kansas City, the largest cities in the state.
Fort Leonard Wood neighborhoods are more than an Army community; they have families and individuals of all types and styles living among them. Each year, the community grows with more people discovering the great Mid-Missouri town and its great houses. There are never any strangers or new people in the community, everyone is an immediate friend.
